Breaking waves on a sandy beach at Umhlanga.

Breaking Waves – A Soothing Sound

On our 2016 South Africa trip we spent some time at Umhlanga, staying in a timeshare block right on the beach. It was great to take an early morning walk, or just sit in the sun on the beach. This is surfing country, so the breakers crash on to the beach and then roll back down the steep slope. The sound is just so soothing. I did get a bit sunburnt – the cost of being soothed by the sound of the waves and going to sleep in the sun.

Wave shots take a bit of effort, mainly waiting for the right moment and the right “look”. It means shooting many photos to catch just the right one. I liked the churned up sand in this shot, and cropped it to concentrate on the sea and remove the horizon.

So you can’t always be at the sea. Buy this beautiful coffee mug to remind you of the beach when you drink your morning coffee.

Going to the beach? Put your kit in this great weekender tote bag.

You capture the breaking wave at the right moment. I really like the complementary colours of the orange sand and the blue ocean. And, I agree, nothing quite as soothing as the sound of breaking waves. 🙂

Thanks Otto. As you know it takes a few tries to get it right. I have many wave pictures! 🙂
      That’s a great beach though.
